Good lighting and ventilation are essential for animal health and welfare. In the UK we have become used to 'making do' with inflexible ventilation systems that only work under certain stocking levels and weather conditions.

Natural ventilation systems are based on an air inlet and exhaust principle. Air enters at the sides and exits at the ridge. The more effective this system the better the air exchange rate, and the cleaner the atmosphere inside the building. The Arntjen curtain & light ridge combination provide the best available ventilation system.

VENTILATION

The correct amount of ventilation in farm buildings, from machinery stores to intensive livestock buildings, is of paramount importance, not just for the welfare of the animals but also to protect machinery and equipment from condensation. Obviously the amount of ventilation required will vary with changing conditions and so the exhaust ventilation channel can be easily, from ground level, partly or fully closed off to provide the optimum conditions in the building.

Based on the information you provide on your building, the size of the exhaust ventilation gap will be designed to ensure that your building is correctly ventilated. In most buildings for livestock further ventilation will also be required at a low level. The Arntjen Adjustable Walling System is the ideal companion to provide this low level ventilation.

LIGHTING

The Arntjen Vented Ridge Light is normally in the centre of the building and so will provide the light just where it is required, without producing glare or dark spots. To provide adequate daylight into a normal building its width will be 10% of the total roof width, this means that other rooflights are not normally required. It is constructed of high quality long life polycarbonate units fixed to a robust, easily constructed aluminium frame work, which ensures that the system is non-fragile.
